Today it's our pleasure to bring you the inside scoop on author Terri L. Austin and her latest writing endeavors. Please welcome Terri!
What genres do you write?
I write humorous mysteries, contemporary romance, and urban fantasy with a funny bone.
How long have you been writing and how many published works?
I’ve been writing off and on for many years. I gave it up for Lent when my kids were little and devoted my life to carpooling. But once my son was in college and my daughter could figure out how to use the microwave, I began again. My two first books, DINERS, DIVES AND DEAD ENDS and LAST DINER STANDING are currently out in the world. My next books, DINER IMPOSSIBLE and an anthology come out later in November and December respectively. I also have the first book of a romance trilogy coming out sometime next spring. It’s all been very exciting.
Of the novels you've written, which is your favorite and why?
How can I choose? It’s like asking if I like milk chocolate or dark chocolate. I love it all! My humorous mystery series is filled with characters I love to revisit. Rose, Roxy, Ma and Axton make me laugh out loud as I’m writing. And that Sullivan is one hot tamale. But my contemporary romance features a hero who is funny and sarcastic and emotionally scarred all rolled into one yummy British package. I can’t decide. Please don’t make me!
Do you have a favorite character from your work?
Hmm. Again, it’s tough to choose. Roxy is a firecracker. I love to piece together her Lolita outfits and she has no filter. But Rose is the girl everyone wants for a best friend. She’s kind and loyal and funny. Yep, I guess I’d have to go with Rose. At least this week.
Where do you get your story ideas?
Everywhere! My brain is like fisherman’s net. All the important stuff gets filtered out and zany, goofy, or just plain weird gets caught and floats around in my brain until I need it.
Is there anyone in particular who has influenced your writing career?
I love Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Karen Marie Moning, Lisa Kleypas, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Janet Evanovich. There are a lot. I love a good story with a scoop of humor.
What do you do when you're not writing?
I have a true passion for reality TV. I love it, can’t get enough. It’s disturbing, really. I’ll watch a housewife do just about anything—talk with the gardener, dress her dog up in cute outfits, shop. Any show involving jail or cops, count me in. Survivor—the best reality series ever. Dating shows where people publicly embarrass themselves. I love it all!
Is there something about you most people don't know, but you wish they did?
That I can bend spoons with my mind. Just don’t look at my fingers when I’m doing it.
What's next on your writing journey?
Book Two of the contemporary romance trilogy. I’m very excited. I love a British hero. They make me swoon
