What genre do you write?
I write Contemporary Romantic Comedy. I'm really into chick-lit and contemporary comedies on a personal level - but there's a shocking lack of steamy sex scenes in those books, so I decided to write one of my own.
How long have you been writing and how many published works?
I've been writing for three years - but I'm really using the word 'writing' loosely. I wrote the first chapter of my book The Break-Up Psychic in three hours - and then didn't progress beyond that for two years! To say that my favorite hobby is procrastinating would be a slow understatement. I've been really encouraged by the response to the book and thus, I've delved into book 2 of the series. I hope to have that one published by September 2013, and I'm going to throw an erotic novella out there somewhere in-between release dates.
Of the novels you've worked on, which is your favorite and why?
Well, I've only worked on one - so I guess that's a no-brainer! The Break-Up Psychic started
as a dark romantic suspense I titled Now Leaving Lampton. I tried and tried to write that story - but I just couldn't. My nature is to be happy, optimistic and snarky so the comedic angle came much more naturally to me.
Do you have a favorite character from your work?
I do! It's Luanne Collette - Ellie's best friend in The Break-Up Psychic. She's a southern gal who's not afraid to let loose. I loved writing her so much I'm putting her character into a comedic suspense series I'm outlining now. She’s a party in a miniskirt.
Where do you get your story ideas?
They just pop in my head, honestly. I got the original idea for this book on a long drive back from
Chicago. I was having a very inappropriate daydream on the way back home and the story was born. I have a lot of inappropriate daydreams - lots of smut running amuck up there.
Is there anyone in particular who has influenced your writing career?
Not really. I read a lot and I think I have twenty 'favorite' authors. Some of my favorites are Emily Barr, Helen Fielding, Sarah Kate Lynch, and Carl Hiaasan. I enjoy books that make me look at the world in new ways and inspire me to live more fully. I am an eternal dreamer.
What do you do when you're not writing?
I work 32 hours a week, I have two kids entering their teens (what joy is mine), a very handsome husband who keeps me on my toes, and I'm a member of a whole horde of groups. I'm currently a member of the local RWA Chapter MARA, The Daughter's of the American Revolution, the Jane Austen Society - just to name a few! I'm a leader, but also a follower. I think that makes me a really aggressive sheep.
What's one thing about you that most people don't know?
I speak pig latin fluently.
What's next on your writing journey?
I'm working on a prequel to book 2 in the Dangerously Dimpled Series called Plus None. The prequel revolves around a one-night stand that occurs several years before the beginning of the book and it will be released about a month before the book. I'm also working on an erotic novella as yet to be named. All I can tell you about that project is that it's ridiculously hot. I'm thinking of only publishing in Thailand so my mom can never, ever read it.
